So The President Jonathan Should Resign?

by Eta Uso, Jr.

Few days ago, the wife of erstwhile Governor of Lagos State and current Chieftain of the APC, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, called for the resignation of Mr. President, citing the failure to secure the safety of lives and property in the country as the reason for her call.

Before we join or draw daggers at the distinguished Senator for her call, let us take a while and go back memory lane.

In the aftermath of the September, 2001 attacks, which totaled four attacks in a single day, history will recall the resilience of the American citizenry in their stand against their common enemy. History records that America mourned. “Some flew the American flag from their front porches and car antennas. Others pinned it to their lapels or wore it on t-shirts. Sports teams postponed games. Celebrities organized benefit concerts and performances”…

PDP Will Not Apologise To Buhari, APC Over Terrorism Support Accusation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not going to retract its earlier statement that the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) aided insurgency in Nigeria.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh said this on Tuesday in Abuja.

Metuh also said that in its pursuit of power shift the opposition party was heating up the polity by distracting President Goodluck Jonathan from his transformation agenda.

Immediately after a bomb exploded at the Nyanya bus park killing more than 75 people on April 14, Metuh issued a statement in which the ruling party alleged that the attack was politically motivated and could be traced to the words of some of the APC politicians who wanted to make Nigeria ungovernable

Jonathan Is Not Strong Enough –Says Obasanjo

Many Nigerians are already missing the days of President Olusegun Obasanjo when misguided folks who dared to threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria are crushed, OluFamous.Com observed. Weighing in on the latest spat of Boko Haram heartless attacks in the country, Obasanjo declared that President Goodluck Jonathan is overwhelmed by the challenge of dealing with deadly Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Focus on Africa from Nairobi, Kenya, Obasanjo said:

“I took it upon myself to reach out to the group after consulting with the president. I went to Maiduguri to meet the families of those who were killed by the police through the help of the lawyer who represented them.“No matter how well-meaning the president is, his assertion on ending Boko Haram has not been achieved. The president is overwhelmed.”The respected former leader also suggested that dialogue could be the key to resolving the crisis. Reminded that he once advocated…

Okupe: 5 Northern govs are comedians -Says El-Rufai is a pernicious liar

Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe has taken a swipe at former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai over his comments against President Goodluck Jonathan calling him a pernicious liar who could not be trusted.

The presidential adviser also lashed out at the five northern governors who had been going round the country, claiming they were merely embarking on comic tour while their states were on fire.

Dr Okupe, who featured as Guest of the Week on Liberty FM Radio monitored in Kaduna on Saturday, said El-Rufai and his group did not mean well for the country and wanted the country to end up in flames. According to him: ‘These are people that do not wish this country well, these are people, who in spite of their desperate on their ambition, would rather, the country crumble before they get to power. These are people who are beneficiary of the same government and of the same country, people who the nation has been extremely very kind to.

“A couple of years ago, El-Rufai was a nobody in this country; he was just a quantity surveyor who was discovered and brought into government by the then Vice-President, Abubakar Atiku and all of a sudden, he made himself a superstar; he became very rich, very comfortable and believes that unless he and his cliques are in government, that government cannot work, which is a fallacy. Nigerians have more than 40 million people who are better educated, better pedigree who can do better given the same opportunity that El-Rufai had.”

On the five  northern governors and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, he retorted: “you heard about five governors who said they were motivated to go round the whole country because of Rivers crisis. Is that not a national joke? It is like watching Africa Magic.

“What is the crisis in Rivers? Who is Amaechi and what is the issue that the whole country is being disturbed because of something that happened at the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF). What is Nigerian Governors’ Forum to the destiny of this country? What has it got to do with us? The Rivers crisis is something that people just latch unto to fan the embers of this anti-Jonathan emotion and to continue to promote hatred against Goodluck Jonathan.

‘And, of course, Amaechi is a willing tool, very rich, wealthy so he is very useful to the opposition. What you are seeing is an over dramatisation of the preparations for 2015 period.

‘These governors that were so motivated, so passionately concern about the ultimate destiny of Nigeria, were not motivated when the Boko Haram crises were raging in the north to go round the north and plead on how to solve the problem.

‘They were not concern enough for the thousands of people that were being bomb, killed in their mosques, their churches in their domains under their eyes. I feel like crying, people are opening their doors to hypocrites…

‘Amaechi used police and power to harass, intimidate and punish people unjustly. Because Mbu has refused to be a tool in the hands of Amaechi and has refused to bend to unjustified high handedness of Amaechi, now because he is supported by the opposition, he now presents Mbu as a villain. It is not true. He is a professional man; he is a man of dignity who has remained steadfast’.

PDP NWC Pay Condolence Visit To Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Sunday implored Nigerians, especially those who knew his late father, Alhaji Ibrahim Bayo Ademola Fashola, to propagate the virtues of deep love for humanity and very strong moral values which he espoused during his lifetime.

Governor Fashola, who spoke while playing host to members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by the Acting National Secretary, Dr. Charles Remi Akitoye, who paid him a condolence visit at Lagos House, Marina, while thanking the visitors, declared, “The only other point to make is to implore those of you who knew my father to do whatever little you can to continue to propagate the ideals that his life history represented;”.

Governor Fashola, who reiterated some of the virtues that his father displayed while alive including a very deep love for humanity and very strong moral values, as has been testified by many people about him, declared, “Those were things that were never worth the trouble for him when it divided humanity or when it devalued honour and so for me I hope that those are ideals that we can all connect to as we seek better side of the promise for our State and our nation”.

Urging all and sundry to put honour and value ahead of every other thing, Governor Fashola declared, “Everything we strive to build would stand or fall in the presence or absence of those virtues. They start from the family and they are translated to the community and from the community they spread into much more formal government structures like states, local governments, political parties and in that way we can express a stronger side of who we are as Nigerians”.

He further  noted, “I know there are very many people in this country and in this state who believe in those virtues and those values; values where, in the midst of all that may be wrong, they still stand for the good course”.

Governor Fashola thanked the delegation for the courtesy of the visit and expressed gratitude to the PDP National Chairman for the honour he accorded to the memory of the late Alhaji Fashola through the Committee.

His words, “On behalf of the Fashola family, we thank you very much and we thank Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and those of you who have also taken the responsibility to personally bear the condolence message. It is a great honour for our father and our family and on their behalf I express gratitude to you”.

He prayed that the Almighty God would honour members of the delegation both collectively and individually in the way they had honoured the memory of his father.

Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation and Acting National Secretary, Dr. Remi Akitoye said the Committee was sent by the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, whom he said was very a close friend to late Alhaji Fashola, to express his deep condolence to the Governor and the Fashola Family over the passage.

Extolling the virtues of the late Alhaji Fashola, the Acting National Secretary noted that the deceased was a strict disciplinarian and also a lover of children recalling how the late octogenarian used to rebuke them as children if he caught them misbehaving adding that immediately after; he would offer them sweets.

“I benefitted from his disciplinary attitude because I remember in those days we were children in school, he would call us to order and scold us when we misbehaved. But he would soon after call us back and offer us sweets. I learnt from it that he rebuked us because he loved us”, Akitoye said.

He prayed, on behalf of the PDP National Chairman, for the repose of the soul of the departed and that the Almighty Allah would grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Also among the delegation were Chief (Mrs.) Aduke Maina, State Chairman of the PDP, Captain Shelle (rtd), Chief Ola Apena, Deputy State Chairman, Chief (Mrs. ) Bukky Ajomo, Mr. Ebitare Otrofanowei, representing South South, Mrs. Agnes Igbanoi and Alhaji Bode Oyedele among others while the State Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Hon. Oyinlomo Danmole, joined the Governor in receiving the delegation.

APC may not last long- Presidency

Lead News Nigeria

The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, has said the newly registered All Progressives Congress, APC, may not last for long because “its foundation is wrong, its combination is faulty and its ideologies are not clearly defined.’’

He said the registration of APC by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, underscored the openness of the present administration.

Mr. Okupe made this remark when he spoke with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

He stressed that the registration of the APC by INEC also demonstrated “political liberalism of President Jonathan.

“This would not have happened under many Africa Presidents, especially when it is obvious that there were obvious hurdles and obstacles to that registration’’, Mr. Okupe said.

Such obstacles, he said, could have been exploited and amplified and used by people of lesser integrity to frustrate the registration of the party. He held that the…

PDP Constitutes National Disciplinary Committee .

Rivers of Hope

By Saharareporters, New York

The Peoples Democratic Party has announced the formation of a “disciplinary committee.”  It did not announce its responsibilities, powers or timeframes.

The committee is to be headed by Alhaji Umaru Dikko, a former Minister of Transport during the vastly-corrupt Second Republic government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari.

When that government was thrown out of power in a coup led by Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Dikko escaped to England, from where the Buhari government famously tried to import him to Nigeria in a crate to face his crimes.

Most members of the committee, which will be formally inaugurated by party chairman Bamanga Tukur, are said to be apologists of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Just one week ago, the PDP set up a 30-person “reconciliation committee” headed by Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson “to ensure comprehensive reconciliation among members” and “harmonize all interests and achieve genuine…

NDCSC Warns Of Threat To Democracy And Human Rights Defenders In Rivers State.

Rivers of Hope

By SaharaReporters, New York

The Niger DeltaCivil Society Coalition(NDCSC) has alerted Nigeria and the global community to deadly threats to human rights and democracy defenders in Rivers State.

In a statement in Port Harcourt today, the coalition traced the origin of the threats to its recent legitimate notice of a One Day Defending Democracy Rally Against Impunity and Political Violence event.

It said various threats have come through phone calls, direct personal attacks and publications through the media on the Chair of NDCSC, Anyakwee Nsirimovu, as well as the prominent Human Rights Defenders who were invited to address the peaceful gathering following the political crisis that has engulfed the state.

“The threats have  been fronted by faceless so-called  militant groups, letter-headed based sectional organizations and representatives of the factional  Peoples Democratic Party Chapter in the state, using all  manners of threats and  blackmail strategies to stop the rally…

“CHILD MARRIAGE IS BARBARIC”: A Campaign in Ignorance

naijainfoman's notes

entry 2When issue becomes controversial, it is necessary that we treat such issue with high sense of responsibility and sensibility. The issue of child marriage has been on the scene of discuss and the present drama currently going on in Nigeria has brought it to lime light once again. This issue can never be over emphasized. The problem remains that every party view it from it own point of angle making their judgement not far fetch from sentiments. As a matter of fact, it will be beneficial enough when we take an holistic approach and take wider view considering how it affect a larger populace rather than being myopic in our approach.

Another thing I will like to clearly state is that it is no gain saying that when any move is orchestrated and sponsored by a very devout Muslim, many are quick to term it ISLAMISATION without considering the benefits…

Rivers House leader faces attempted murder charge •S/South leaders to Amaechi: Resign now or face expulsion

I think this is the beginning of the unfolding of a ‘big political drama’in Rivers state.

AS investigators continue to interrogate the House Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd, indications emerged yesterday that he may be charged for attempted murder.

police-logo1Informed sources from Force CID headquarters disclosed to Nigerian Tribune that the house leader alleged that he used the mace in self defence as he also sustained injuries.

The source ruled out the possibility of any bail for now as he is still being interrogated.

Nigerian Tribune gathered authoritatively that attempt by the House leader to escape from the country was aborted last weekend by security agents hence he had to show up to the police as directed by the Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar.

The source revealed that Chief Lloyd was in hiding as the old Rivers State lodge in Lagos before information got to the security agents who tightened up security at the international airport and the borders.
