Tottenham ‘join Liverpool and Manchester City in race for Chelsea’s Ashley Cole’

Tottenham are believed to be surprise candidates to sign free agent Ashley Cole this summer.

The left-back is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires at the end of the season, despite Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho saying he doesn’t think Cole or John Terry, whose current deal also comes to an end, will depart.

And while Liverpool have been favourites to sign Cole for some weeks and Manchester City also keen, it now appears interest is mounting in north London, with Tottenham also said to be considering the 33-year-old as they look to replace the underperforming Danny Rose.

Paris Saint-Germain admit interest in Chelsea duo Oscar and David Luiz

Oscar and David Luiz are wanted by PSG (Picture: Getty)

Chelsea duo Oscar and David Luiz are firmly on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain after boss Laurent Blanc admitted his interest.

Both players, along with Blues team-mate Eden Hazard, have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

And while Barcelona were thought to be leading the chase for Luiz, it looks as though the Catalan giants may face competition from big-spending PSG.

‘Oscar and David Luiz? They are two players that could interest PSG,’ said boss Blanc.

The French champions were linked with Oscar a few weeks ago and are still believed to be keen on Hazard, but Blanc could also be in the hunt for a new centre-half, with Alex looking likely to AC Milan at the end of the season.

How Jose Mourinho can turn Chelsea into winners next season

Metro

Jose Mourinho knows he must make some changes to Chelsea’s squad (Picture: Getty Images)

As the curtain closes on the 2013-14 Premier League season Jose Mourinho will already be thinking about the next campaign and how he can improve his squad in order to transform them into a title winning outfit.

Goalkeeper:

With Petr Cech is between the sticks there isn’t a lot you could improve on in this position but with the Czech’s injuries it is unlikely that he will have a long career for a player of his position. Luckily enough Mourinho has the most promising goalkeeper in Europe to call upon in Thibaut Courtois, who simply has to be recalled as there’s a feeling he will get too used to being away from the club if he’s loaned out for a further season.

The beauty of strengthening in this area by introducing Courtois is that the club…

Spare me the ‘classy’ Ashley Cole comments, his retirement has let England down

Metro

Hung up his international boots: Chelsea defender Ashley Cole (Picture: AFP/Getty Images)

Having bowed out of international football following Roy Hodgson’s decision to exclude him from England’s 23-man World Cup party, I’ve seen lots of words describing Ashley Cole.

Classy. Legend. Incredible servant.

I’d tend to go more with ‘disgrace’.

Put simply, he’s put his own ego and pride ahead of the need of the country.

Has he been an incredible servant to England? 107 caps don’t lie…

Has he been one of the best, if not the best, England left-back of all time? Absolutely…

But this just makes it all the more hard to digest that he should choose to turn his back on his country at such a crucial time.

Should Leighton Baines or Luke Shaw get injured, England deserve to have their third-best option available to them.

That option, in the manager’s eyes anyway, is Ashley Cole.

Yes, you…

Chelsea Season Review

Locker Room Breakdown

Final Position: 3rd

Much was made of Mourinho’s return to Chelsea, but in his first season back Chelsea have been unsuccessful on all fronts. Despite beating Manchester City and Liverpool twice each Chelsea were unable to finish above either. Clearly missing a top-quality striker, something that they will look to address as soon as possible. Chelsea did make big strides this season, but having performed so well against their top rivals, they will be disappointed to have failed to win the league. Overall, a disappointing season.

Player of the Season: Eden Hazard

Their defenders were particularly impressive this season, but it was the electric Eden Hazard who was Chelsea’s most important player this season. His creativity and goalscoring ability disguised Chelsea’s dire need for a top striker for much of the season. There are rumors abound that he may be on his way to PSG –  and that would be…

Will Chelsea target Diego Costa be enough to bring title success to Stamford Bridge next season?

Metro

Diego Costa dispatches a penalty against his soon to be club  (Picture: Getty Images)

‘BREAKING NEWS: Chelsea have had a £32million bid accepted by Atletico Madrid for striker Diego Costa.’ That is the line all Chelsea fans have been dying to hear, myself included. But can Costa alone solve Chelsea’s problems and ensure the same mistakes made this season don’t occur again?

It has been obvious for quite a while now that the Blues are in desperate need for a striker. Some of the best frontmen in Europe such as Radamel Falcao, Gonzalo Higuain, Mario Balotelli and Edinson Cavani have all been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the past.

Despite this Samuel Eto’o was acquired instead and, although he managed to score in some of Chelsea’s biggest fixtures, the Cameroon international along with Fernando Torres and Demba Ba failed to reach double figures in terms of goals…

Chelsea must not let Romelu Lukaku get away, insists Ray Wilkins

Metro

Romelu Lukaku could be set to leave Chelsea (Picture: Getty)

Chelsea would be mad to allow Romelu Lukaku to depart the club this summer, according to the Blues’ former coach and player Ray Wilkins.

Lukaku’s future at Stamford Bridge has been in doubt since being allowed to join Everton on loan at the end of last summer’s transfer window, despite Chelsea already having limited attacking options.

And despite a good season at Goodison Park, where he impressed boss Roberto Martinez with 16 goals in 33 appearances, reports suggest the Belgian could be offered to Atletico Madrid in part-exchange for Diego Costa.

But Wilkins insists Chelsea should do all they can to keep Lukaku at the club.

Mourinho, Manchester United and Chelsea transfer rumors

José Mourinho (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Several Chelsea transfer rumors have emanated from the transfer mill even before the opening of the summer transfer window. Even before Jose Mourinho made his return to Stamford bridge at the end of last season several players have made the headlines as prospective summer Chelsea transfer targets. Roman Abramovich was initially said to have handed the new manager a £100M summer transfer kitty and many players (surprisingly, without Wayne Rooney at the beginning) have continually been linked to Stamford bridge in the continuing Chelsea transfer rumours.

However, contrary to what expectations in the Chelsea transfers, going by the many Chelsea transfer rumours that have filled newspaper headline daily, the club has indirectly made statement of intent to build the future of the club on young and talented players the club parades instead of spending BIG in the transfer market. the club wants to evolve a system akin to Barcelona’s which nurtures talents in the Chelsea Academy in preparation for future place in the first team. I think this makes some business sense for Chelsea FC. While the Chelsea transfer rumours that have linked players such as Demba Ba, David Luiz, Mikel Obi out of Stamford Bridge continue, Chelsea players have continued to bag the confidence of Jose Mourinho in their ability to fit into his plan. Jose Mourinho did make it clear that ‘no one is safe’ as he expects everyone to work hard to prove their worth in his team ahead of the new season. He had identified the defence and attacking departments as areas that need urgent reinforcement and that has guided the activities of Jose Mourinho and Chelsea FC in the transfer market thus far.

Chelsea brought back Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Thomas Kalas ,who spent last season on loan, for a chance in Jose Mourinho’s first team. Roman Abramovich and Mourinho want to get Chelsea FC back to the good old days of Chelsea dominance during Mourinho’s first spell at Stamford bridge. New signings Marco Van Ginkel and André schurle have arrived Stamford bridge this summer but Mourinho still maintains that Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney is the main target of Chelsea FC this summer as he tries to bolster his attacking options. Chelsea FC’s first £20M Wayne Rooney bid was earlier rejected by Manchester United. Wayne Rooney wants to leave Manchester United after Alex Ferguson alleged that the player had put in a transfer request last season which the player has vehemently denied and feels disappointed about it. The new coach of Manchester United did not help matters either has he revealed that Rooney will fall behind van Persie in the pecking order for the new season. Despite David Moye’s insistence that the player is not for sale, Chelsea FC have remained adamant in the pursuit of the striker. The want away Manchester United striker may see the opportunity of working with Jose Mourinho as a lease of live away from Old Trafford.

The Wayne Rooney and Lius Suarez’s transfer saga have headlined most of the newspaper lately with the major actors including Rogers, Alex Ferguson and David Moyes. The episode started during the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson and has been further aggravated from the time David Moyes made the disclosure that Wayne Rooney will play second fiddle to Van Persie. Sir Alex Ferguson had alleged that Wayne Rooney had submitted a transfer request to the club an allegation that was firmly denied by the latter and both men had not seen face to face thereafter.

If Wayne Rooney finally moves to be under Mourinho at Chelsea it will be thanks to Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes and their role in the whole transfer saga.

Samuel Eto’o keen on Jose Mourinho link up with Chelsea

Metro

Samuel Eto’o has opened the door to a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea after being put up for sale by Anzhi Makhachkala.

Reports suggest the entire first team of the big-spending Russian outfit have been transfer listed in a bit to slash their outgoings, and Eto’o, 32, who enjoyed great success under Mourinho at Inter Milan, admits he’d jump at the chance to link up with the Special One again at Stamford Bridge.

‘There is only one Jose Mourinho. I have played under a lot of great coaches – but there is no other character in the game like Jose,’ Eto’o said.

‘He is one of the best coaches in the world – and we had a lot of success together at Inter Milan. I would like to have the chance to play under him again – because it is never boring when Jose is around.

‘Of course Chelsea…

Report: LeBron Considering Presidency Bid for NBA Players Assocation

Black America Web

Miami Heat star Lebron James is currently considering a bid for presidency in the NBA Players Association.

“It’s something he has talked about with a small group of people,” a source with close ties to James told FOXSports.com’s Jason Whitlock  on Wednesday. “He was very vocal at the meeting during the All-Star Weekend about the need for the union to dramatically change. There is a new executive director coming in and new commissioner. He recognizes that this is the time for the union to change.”

With the current president, Derek Fisher, at the end of his career, most likely he will not return. His term as president expired this summer, he just recently signed a new contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Fisher is also facing a lawsuit from the union’s former executive director, Billy Hunter.

Chelsea victory over Inter Milan marred by horror challenge on John Terry

Metro

Chelsea may have continued their 100 per cent pre-season record with a 2-0 victory over Inter Milan, but the clash against the Italian side was marred by a horror tackle on captain John Terry.

Goals from Oscar and Eden Hazard gave the Blues their fourth win of the summer, but they left Indianapolis with concerns over the fitness of Terry, with the Premier League season just two weeks away.

Inter’s Hugo Campagnaro was shown a straight red card for his studs-up challenge on the 32-year-old’s ankle, with Terry extremely fortunate to avoid serious injury as he went on to play the full 90 minutes.

Manchester City’s Audi Cup performance will hearten Manuel Pellegrini

Metro

City’s whistle stop participation in the Audi Cup ended with a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the final, rounding off two games in two days to continue their pre-season preparations.

They were certainly two contrasting games too. The first, against an under-strength and under-par Milan, saw City race to a 5-0 lead within half an hour, only to then concede three goals in six minutes before half-time. Typically, the second half then passed without a goal but victory meant City faced hosts Bayern, who were rounding off their pre-season, and despite Alvaro Negredo’s opening goal they conceded twice soon after.

As always, it is difficult to draw much in the way of conclusions from pre-season – especially given the back to back nature of the two games – but Manuel Pellegrini will take away positives, not least in terms of building fitness against two sides of the level of…

Gareth Bale will leave Tottenham, suggests new signing Roberto Soldado

Metro

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Roberto Soldado has admitted that he is not expecting to play alongside Gareth Bale, with the Welshman’s transfer to Real Madrid looking ever-more likely.

Soldado has become Spurs’ record signing after his  £26million move to White Hart Lane and while he says he would love to line up in the same side as Bale, he has suggested he is not expecting that to happen.

Bale is believed to be close to a world-record £85m move to Spain – and Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has been doing his best to bring in new faces to offset his departure as much as possible, with Brazilian Paulinho already arriving for £17millon and Roma’s Argentina forward Erik Lamela believed to be next on the list.

Speaking to reporters at Valencia airport as he headed to London, 28-year-old Soldado said: ‘I think everybody knows about Gareth Bale.

‘He’s a great player. It will be…

Henrique Hilario nets one-year deal as Chelsea perform surprise U-turn

Metro

Henrique Hilario has netted himself a new one-year contract after Chelsea performed a U-turn on his future.

The Portuguese goalkeeper was named on the Blues’ list of released players at the end of last season, but this week travelled to the United States for the club’s pre-season tour as part of a 25-man squad.

Now boss Jose Mourinho has taken the decision to reward the 37-year-old shot-stopper, who he signed from Nacional back in 2006, with a new one-year deal.

‘It feels really good to sign a new contract for another year at the club, I’m very proud,’ Hilario told Chelsea’s website.

‘I’m really pleased to be part of this great squad and I’m looking forward to working once again with Jose Mourinho.’

The goalkeeper has made 39 appearances for Chelsea, keeping 18 clean sheets, and is one of four goalkeepers in Mourinho’s squad, alongside Petr Cech, Mark Schwarzer and…

Valencia offer Fernando Torres Chelsea escape route after Olivier Giroud no-go

Metro

Fernando Torres has been offered an escape route from Chelsea by Valencia.

The Spanish club are weighing up a move for the striker as a possible replacement for Roberto Soldado, who – pending the resolution of an impasse over his £25.8million price tag – is Tottenham-bound.

Valencia boss Miroslav Duckic has tried and failed with an approach for Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud, while Real Zaragoza’s Portuguese international Helder Postiga remains a possible target.

However, Los Che have contacted Torres’ representatives to sound the former Atletico Madrid striker out, reports The Times, and are hoping Chelsea might budge on the £20m valuation.

With the possible arrival of Wayne Rooney from Manchester United making first-team opportunities even more scant for Torres, the lure of more regular starts at the Mestalla in a World Cup season could tempt the 29-year-old back to La Liga.

Torres’ drastic dip in fortunes since his £50m move…

Gareth Bale’s reps set for crunch talks with Tottenham hierarchy

ProSoccerTalk

Spurs supporters – avert your eyes.

We may see some traction this week in the Gareth Bale saga as the winger’s representatives hope to meet Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to discuss a potential move to Real Madrid.

Returning to London from Barclays Asia Trophy in Hong Kong, the club has been granted two days of down time before preparations begin for Saturday’s friendly in Monaco. It’s a match that, with Bale’s glute muscle issue and the growing murmurs of his discontent, the winger is unlikely to feature.

The source of Bale’s ire has been well publicized: Levy has refused to consider the $133 million (€100m) bid that Madrid has reportedly tabled for the 24 year old. From all indications, Spurs will remain resolute in their denial of selling Bale, world record fee or not.

The issue then becomes, how far is Bale willing to take his vexation?

He could try to force…
